Not supposed to happen to people like us..

Sooooo on my way home from shift the day before Christmas Eve, I was coming through downtown Ft. Worth in the inside lane, when an 18 wheeler came into my lane and pushed me into the concrete wall that was separating oncoming traffic.

A few of you that know me a little more than others know that I am a country girl, and my truck is a tank. Chevy 1500 HD with a 4in lift kit, wide A/T tires, grill guard and bumper. The truck driver was obviously just drifting into my lane & when he did, I hit my horn.... and he kept coming over. That's when I stepped on my brakes and over corrected trying to avoid a collision with him, & hit the concrete wall.

I am okay, but my truck was my baby. My world.

I was still in uniform, but I freaked out. I went from doing 70 MPH to 0.. way too quickly. Witnesses pulled over and came running toward me while I was on the phone with dispatch. MedStar was 1st on scene. I was frantic. My driver door was slammed against the wall so I had to climb out the other way. I hopped over the wall with the EMT and proceeded to walk to the ambulance. Fire had not made scene yet, so people were still flying pass us.

The EMT kept asking if I was okay, I told her I was fine, but I couldn't stop crying and just kept saying... This isn't supposed to happen to people like us..

Bystanders said the truck driver stopped up the road and FWPD went up there, but were unable to find him.
A wrecker came and picked up my truck, I have a rental now... and now it's just sit and wait to find out if it's totaled or not.

I'm pretty depressed now. This sucks.

I am very fortunate, and glad that I am okay... but :(
It's not supposed to happen to people like us..

  1. Hello, My name is Tammy. I am a 52 year old career Paramedic and Paramedic Instructor who was put out on Disability in 2009. I live with my 22 year old son. We live in North Carolina. I write this in the hopes of getting help from kind, more fortunate people. I spent 20 years helping and teaching people as a Paramedic before I had to go out on Disability. I make $933.00 a month on Disability. My rent takes over half that. My electricity takes another $250.00. I make 'too much' to get Medicaid, so I have Medicare which still costs a lot for Doctor's visits and Medications....and I am on a lot. I am not eligible for food stamps because I make 'too much'. I have exhausted every avenue available to me and cannot find help anywhere. My son is desperately searching for a job, which is all we would need to make it, but has had no luck. No one is hiring. He has applied for work everywhere in our city, nearby cities, and online. It's just impossible in this economy to find a job.
I am asking for ANY donations anyone could make. I am trying to get enough money to pay my rent up a few months in advance so that we can eat and get my medications until my son can find employment. Any amount that anyone can make would be a blessing and greatly appreciated!! I am not used to asking strangers for help, and this is very hard for me to do, but I am desperate. I have no family that can help me financially, and the Government will do nothing for me beyond my Disability check...which I worked very hard for all my life.

Please, please help me if you can...any amount will help.

    Please mail any donation to:
